My question is, how do you get caught for celebrating birthdays? I can see other holidays because of the decorations and whatnot, but birthdays are a one day thing.

Disfellowshipped for celebrating holidays?
by Robert_V_Frazier indoes anyone know of any specific cases of jehovah's witnesses who were disfellowshipped because of celebrating any of the forbidden holidays -- christmas, easter, birthdays, etc?
i have a discussion going with a jehovah's witness who claims that he doesn't know of anyone ever being dfed over that.. thanks in advance,.

Where did the Society get the two class idea from?
They use their meaning in order to enforce the notion that they alone are the faithful and discreet slave, and all JWs should meekly follow their lead.
The passage in the Bible is more ambiguous than that. I'm not sure what is the actual meaning.

Comments You Won't Hear at the 01-18-04 WT Study
by blondie in"show yourselves thankful".
(psalm 133:1)(c ).
in what practical ways can we demonstrate that we are truly thankful?.

Hey. I'm interested in going to Kingdumb Hellhole
ROFL! Good one.
Anyway, excellent work Blondie. I too noticed that they frequently leave Jesus out of the equation, yet they purport to be the one and only Christian group on the earth. I also agree about the absurdity of arguing that other major religions have no religious background whatsoever, especially considering many religions share the same doctrines. I found that particularly strange when I started studying with the JWs. The book they use for their initian process is none other than "What Does
GodThe WTS Require of Us?" Funny how my teacher insisted we cover every chapter, even though I was familiar with much of the material. -

I read somewhere, perhaps on one of the groups, that they wanted the brothers and sisters to dress more "business-like": that the sisters should wear business suits.
Heh. Yeah, and they also discourage higher education, thus stunting JW women (and men) from earning more money. Also tack on the fact that some JW wives stay home because the husband is the "head" of the household. So how are they supposed to afford business suits WTS? Hmmmm?
Last I checked, clothing was not free.

The dubs at "Witness World" are discussing UN involvement!!!!!
by somebodylovesme ini am a lurker on the "witness world" witnesses-only website.
they are having a discussion because someone during door-to-door service confronted them with the un letter.
they are all saying that it is "obviously made up"... but the person is planning on writing to the society to ask.

Attn:Witness World Lurkers--Perhaps you could allow us all read only access to your site. If you have the 'Truth' what is there to fear? Perhaps you could dismantle our apostate reasonings. lol
That always baffled me while I was studying with JWs.

Is the rank and file aware of the serious dilema the WTS is facing?
by fearnotruth22 inthe rank and file fears "apostates" hence jws will not accpet any evidence or arguments from succh like ones.
the mind set automatically rejects any charges against the wts without examining facts obejectivle because the wts cannot be wrong.by definition jws view the wts as god's agency, so it cannot be wrong and even if it is wrong, it is for a reason that god is allowing it and it is god's arrangement and not the business of the rank and file to judge for themselves on that but,to leave it in j's hand and in time it will be taken care of.
in law that is called a catch all, which is sometimes the power that a judge is empowered with by the state to use his discretion and do whatever the hell he wants, pardon the phrase.. it is true that the wts has opoosers that distort facts and trump up charges in order to discredit the wts, but false accustaions against thewts do not camcel out real evidence that challenges the wt and above and beyond wt teachings is the evidence that puts a differebnt spin on and shows another perspective of the bible, and the concept of god affecting in peoples lives.

I agree with Gopher's original post. While I studied with the JWs, a few of them admitted to having doubts at one point. Because the JWs offer "perks" such as millions of friends world wide, a united congregation, true love withint the congregation, etc., they are afraid to go back out into the world, where everything is more gray and uncertain.
As for me, I couldn't stand their arrogance. I strongly disagree with the notion that baptized JWs are a cut above everyone else. Although they don't come out and say that, if you read between the lines, you will catch some elitist vibes. Also, I noticed the JWs have a caste system. They have unbaptized members, who have significanly less privelages than baptized. Even among baptized members, there is a ranking system. Pioneers are announced every Thursday and receive a round of applaus. Only the "annoited 144,000" are allowed to participate in

Santa Clause and lying....
by Oxnard Hamster inone reason the jws don't celebrate christmas, besides the fact it's supposedly an insult to god, is that they purport that it's wrong to "lie" to children by telling them santa claus exists.
i really didn't give the issue much thought until recently.
the jw i used to study with called me and asked how i was doing, and we eventually got on the subject of christmas, and he brought up that it's wrong because parents lie to children by saying santa claus is real.

Yeah, and then there is the white lie, which is usually done just to keep peace and to ensure nobody's feelings are hurt.

Am I the only person who doesn't think Star Wars is completely hopeless? Yeah, the prequels have some noticeably problems, like the first one being a bit too much on the slapstick side, and the second one dragging on until the end. But really, I think the third episode will be great, because a lot has to happen - fall of the Jedi, Anakin turns to Darth Vader, Empire takes over, etc. - and it's going to take itself seriously.
I think the major problem with the prequels is Lucas took too long getting to the heart of the problem, The Clone Wars. In Episode 1, I never got a sense that the galaxy was in any danger. Same with 2, until the end. In 4, the movie starts off with the Empire causing trouble, giving viewers a sense that the galaxy is in need of saving. The prequels didn't portray that as well, but I think that will be fixed in 3.
Anyway, on the subject, I would love to see a live action "The Hobbit" movie. I always enjoyed the animated version, but a movie with live actors would be great too.

I guess he has a point, but on the other hand I really don't know about any cases where a child was traumatized because he or she discovered Santa didn't exist. Heck, I remember as a little kid, some of my friends in the neighborhood figured out it was parents, and they didn't seem to mind. I didn't care when I found out he was fake either.
I guess the question is: Is it okay to lie if it brings joy to a person?
